What makes the preventive medicine/public health residency program unique?

Our program at the Florida Department of Health in Palm Beach County stands out by merging clinical medicine with advanced public health expertise.

This two-year residency (PGY2 and PGY3) provides in-depth training in medical management and population health, all with the goal of developing the next generation of public health leaders. We focus on enhancing your skills to drive meaningful change in public health practice and management.

Who is eligible to apply?

We welcome both osteopathic and allopathic physicians. The program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), and upon completion, physicians are eligible for preventive medicine board exams.

Applicants must have completed a PGY1 year at an ACGME or AOA accredited institution.

Is an MPH required for the residency program?

Yes, a master of public health degree is required for graduating from the residency program and achieving board certification. If you already have an accredited MPH, it will be accepted by the program.

I already have an MPH. Can I finish the program in one year?

The program requires both PGY2 and PGY3 years of training, regardless of prior MPH credentials.

Do you accept mail-in applications or direct submissions?

No. Applications must be submitted through the ERAS program. Required documents include:

  1. Curriculum Vitae
  2. ERAS Common Application
  3. Detailed Personal Statement
  4. Three Letters of Recommendation
  5. Transcripts
  6. USMLE and/or COMLEX scores
  7. ECFMG Certification/CSA Test results (if applicable)

Applications should be submitted by November 15 of the year before the start date (July 1).

Interviews are conducted from October to January.

Do I need a Florida medical license?

No, but you will need a Florida training medical license before starting the residency.

What are the medical licensure requirements?

A Florida training license can be obtained through the Board of Medicine after program acceptance. Visit the Division of Medical Quality Assurance for more details.

What is required to complete the program?

  1. Complete and present research and quality improvement projects
  2. Participate in all meetings, lectures, seminars, and journal clubs
  3. Complete an MPH if not already obtained
  4. Meet all assignment deadlines

Do you support an issuance of a visa?

This program does not support any visas at this time. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
